Online Services Portal - Collection Notice
The Online Services Portal is a Queensland Courts online system. Queensland Courts provides online services through the Online Services Portal. The Department of Justice provides administrative support for the Online Services Portal. Queensland Courts and the Department of Justice are committed to handling your personal information in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) and the Queensland Privacy Principles (QPPs). The way we manage personal information is explained in the following documents:
- the DoJ Privacy Policy, and
- the Queensland Courts Privacy page.
QPP 5 obliges us to advise you of certain matters when collecting your personal information. This collection notice sets out those matters, and explains how we will manage the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information. This collection notice should be read in conjunction with the Terms and Conditions of use of the Online Services Portal.
How is your personal information collected?
We collect personal information about you in a number of ways. This includes direct from you. For example, when you register for the Online Services Portal, you provide us with personal information such as your name, email address, etc.
We may also collect personal information about you from third parties. The exact information collected will depend on the circumstances. This may include, but is not limited to:
- details such as your name, email address, and date of birth from a digital identity service provider,
- personal information about you from an organisation that issues you with credentials, such as your practising certificate, to confirm your credentials.
Why are we collecting your personal information?
The information collected is necessary to register you as a user of the Online Services Portal. We collect your personal information for the purpose of:
- creating and maintaining your account,
- administering your use of, and access to, the Online Services Portal,
- determining your eligibility to use certain services offered through the Online Services Portal, and
- contacting you to provide notifications including regarding system upgrades and outages.
What would happen if we do not collect your personal information?
If you choose not to provide your personal information, we will not be able register you for an Online Services Portal account, or your access to services in the portal may be limited. You can still access registry services in person or via post.
Who will we disclose your personal information to?
We may share your personal information, such as but not limited to, your practising certificate details or your Queensland Law Society ID number, with third parties to confirm your credentials.
Overseas disclosure of your personal information
Your personal information will not be disclosed by us outside of Australia.
Privacy complaint and access to and correction of your personal information
The DoJ Privacy Policy explains how you can request access to and/or correction of your personal information. This policy also explains how you can make a complaint if you consider we have breached our obligations to manage your personal information in accordance with the QPPs and explains how we deal with privacy complaints.
